This intensive 20 hour weekend course covers detailed management of both medical conditions and trauma in remote settings. You will get the chance to practice advanced skills such as spinal immobilisation & IV canulation, and learn through scenario based training, including night exercises.

This weekend is aimed at those planning to work or travel abroad far beyond the call of immediate medical aid. Participants are always an interesting mix - teachers leading groups to Africa, Yachtsmen planning long oceanic journeys, climbers with their minds set on remote first ascents, reporters preparing for hairy assignments, field biologists heading for the rainforest and even a couple running horse trekking holidays in Mongolia. On Remote Care you will learn valuable skills in good company.

Entry requirements

This course is not suitable for those without prior training. All students must have a two day Wilderness/Mountain First Aid certificate or equivalent. If you are unsure that you have the requisite background please contact us. Students who have not attended one of our Level 2 Wilderness First Aid courses must purchase and pre-study 'Wilderness First Aid- Emergency Care for Remote Locations'' by the AAOS & WMS.

Course manuals, certification and assessment

The weekend is run both as a stand alone course for those with appropriate pre-training and as the second part of our ECSI Advanced Wilderness First Aid programme. All successful students receive a Remote Care certificate valid for three years. Participants who have previously completed our Wilderness First Aid course and who pass a multiple question exam receive a ECSI Wlderness First Aid (32 Hours) completion card valid worldwide for three years.

Participants receive a copy of our Remote Care: Patient Assessment & Advanced Skills handbook to aid on-course learning and medical kit lists relevant to the regions they will be traveling in.

Venue, Accommodation and Meals
Our London Wilderness First Aid courses are held in and around Holland Park YHA. We take full advantage of its setting in the Park to do many practical sessions outside. The parks fifty four acres includes the largest area of semi-natural woodland in central London. The hostel is also an ideal base for exploring London's urban jungle, within walking distance of the Natural History Museum and the Royal Geographical Society.

Our course costs are not residential. Beds are available at Holland Park YHA, but need to be booked in advance. Dormitory beds start at £21.60 per night including breakfast. Single and twin rooms are also available. Light refreshments are provided in the training room but we will be out in the park around lunch times so bring a packed lunch. Breakfast, dinner and packed lunches are available from the hostel. When booking accommodation at Holland Park YHA tell them you are attending our course.
